Note
Of Bangor Castle. Col. South Down Militia Source: Foster's Peerage 1881 Will exists - the last codicil is dated 5 March 1831 TCD entered Feb 19 1773 aged 18. Harrow School. s.of Bernard, Baro; b Bangor (Co. Down) PC, MP Wicklow 1777, Killyleagh 1790; Bangor 1798, Co Down 1812. In PRONI there is a letter (ref D.3897/8) from him to Mary Anne Symes dated Clifton, Feb 16th 1812. Dear Mrs Symes I do not recollect whether I have mentioned to you that when I was last at Bangor I put an arrangement of my affairs on paper in the form of a will, and that I mentioned you and Mr Lloyd as executors of it - Louisa had always expressed a wish that all my younger children should be made equal in fortune and accordingly I have fixed the sum I leave to each at 6000 pounds deducting from John and Robert the value of what they have already received - and in case I should survive my brother Lord Bangor - I have to each £3,000 more, which I undertake to be the sum likely to come to them as their shares of the dividend of Ld B's property, so I expect they will have the value of nine thousand pounds each. The rent of lands produced out of Louisa's fortune I have left to the distribution of you and Mr Lloyd, as I was not prepared to say what was best to be done about them - when I can see you I wish to consult with you , what might be best done; if I may ? some time, It perhaps might be just to leave them to Bernard & make him a kind of eldest son - otherwise to turn them into money & divide them - I propose going to Ireland shortly & if I ? ? to find you after our circuit of Assizes is over I will go to meet you. I have matters prepared to levy fines with Edward when we can contrive to be in Dublin together, he is at present in Devonshire with his aunts but wishes to go to Ireland when he is able. If that matter was over, all my landed property might be settled in succession to all my family. Boys first & in failure of all of them on the girls - as things stand under my father's settlement I find it wouldgo back to their Uncle Edward should my three eldest sons die without issue. There is no finding out how long poor Sophia may be kept here; ? unfortunate undertaking we embark'd in ---- She now enjoys good spirits & does not seem to suffer much at any time --- we are to have a visit from Lady Clare and Mrs Richardson in a day or two - the little girls are fat and well and go on with their governess very pleasantly All d.... loves to you Mary Anne Aunts Uncles cousins I am your ...... Affectionately Rob Ward He was still in Clifton on 16 January 1813 but by 30 March 1813 he was in Dublin and then back in Clifton by 31 May 1813. In Nov 1813 he was in Dublin again and on No 20 back at Bangor writing of the death of his sister Arabella. Please acknowledge the source of any data you download.
