Capt. 8 Nov. 1844. Major 22 Mar. 1852 d.unm. at sea, 17 May 1853, on board the Queen of the South. 7th son of Nicholas Gifford, of Ballysop, and Margaret his wife, dau. of Mitchelbourne Symes, of Coolboy, co. Wicklow. Brother of John Symes Gifford, q.v.
